Many people desire ministry, but not everyone is called into it.
Desire is common.
Calling is rare.
In a generation where platforms are easily accessible and voices are many, it has become difficult for young ministers to discern whether they are truly called by God or simply moved by passion, admiration, or opportunity.
If you get this wrong, you will spend years building something God never sent you to build.
Romans 11:29 (KJV)
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”
A genuine calling is not something you manufacture—it is something God initiates and sustains.
Here are five proofs that you have a genuine calling.
- You carry a burden that does not leave.
A true calling is first felt as a burden, not excitement.
It stays with you in private.
It speaks to you in quiet moments.
It does not disappear when things become inconvenient.
You may try to ignore it, delay it, or even run from it, but it remains.
Oh young minister, if what you feel can easily be replaced by another interest, then it is not yet a calling.
- Your life begins to align with separation.
When God calls a man, He separates him.
There will be things you used to enjoy that no longer sit well with your spirit.
Conversations you once entertained will begin to lose their appeal.
Your appetite will change.
Calling will demand a different life.
If your lifestyle remains unchanged after you claim to be called, then you have not yet responded to the call.
- You are drawn to God more than to visibility.
A genuine calling pulls you towards God before it pushes you towards people.
You will find yourself:
- Desiring prayer
- Hungering for the Word
- Seeking understanding
Your focus will not be on being seen, but on being built.
Oh young minister, if your greatest excitement is the platform and not the presence of God, then you must re-examine your foundation.
- There is a consistent witness, not just external validation.
People may affirm you, but a calling is not built on compliments.
There is an inner knowing, a quiet conviction that does not depend on applause.
At the same time, God often confirms His call through:
- Spiritual authority
- Seasoned voices
- Divine opportunities
But the foundation is not what people say—it is what God has settled in your spirit.
- You are willing to be processed, not just announced.
A genuine calling embraces process.
You are not in a hurry to be seen.
You are willing to be hidden, trained, corrected, and built.
You understand that what God wants to do through you requires preparation.
Many want to be revealed, but few are willing to be refined.
Oh young minister, if you resist correction, avoid accountability, and rush visibility, you are not yet ready for what you claim.
Do not deceive yourself.
Not everyone who speaks is sent.
Not everyone who is gifted is called.
If you build without a genuine calling, you will struggle to sustain what you start.
But when God is the one who called you, He also becomes the one who sustains you.
Take time to examine your life.
Be honest with yourself.
Allow God to define your path, not your ambition.
